Sometimes I get writers block, as in. What shall I blog about today. I mean anyone can come up with any subject to blog about but I want to stick to writing health related and children related blogging. I friended someone on Facebook today and he has a Facebook page about bullying. Then it hit me, a blog about bullying. It’s relevant and it’s an important subject that we all need to talk about. Now, I’m no Dr of Psychology or any kind of expert on the subject but I can tell you about my experiences on the matter. In my case when I was growing up it was the school ground rules. Someone pushes you, you push back. You know what, I hate to say it but it worked. My bully’s name was Bill.
But we all have a Bill don’t we. You remember, the one who threw snowballs at the others, pushed his way to get to the front of the line. And I wasn’t excused from this jerks nonsense. And you know what, I wasn’t really scared of the guy, I just brushed off his shenanigans. Ah I don’t care I would say to myself. But then one day I couldn’t take his BS anymore. I walked up to him and punched him in the face. I know nowadays this isn’t considered proper behaviour but he deserved it. And you know what, he stopped with the snowballs, the pushing and shoving. Voila, no more bullying from Bill. And you know what? After all his bullying, I got called in to the Principals office the next morning. Little coward I thought to myself. This is what all the anti-bullying people must mean about Bullies everywhere.
So now my daughter was a victim to bullying, and she’s only 5. I went to pick her up last week and instantly I could see something was wrong. She was quiet, distant and she had a sad face. But she wouldn’t tell me what was wrong . I guess that’s another symptom of bullying. The victims don’t want to talk about it. Then finally the water works came pouring out. Jessica (not her real name) was mean to me. Then all those memories of Bill came flooding back to me. So I told her to make a fist put on your game face and hit her back. WHOA! WWHOA! WHOA! My wife had to step in. I will talk to your teacher tomorrow she said.
OMG is this the advice I just gave my 5 year old. So you see, bullying can reach anybody at any time and no matter what. We can always talk about it, we can put up as many posts as we want about how bad bullying is. There’s always going to be a Bill somewhere. Getting back to my new Facebook friend, I want to post his Facebook page so that everybody can get some really useful advice and great articles. Also, if you have an anti-bullying link or webpage yourself and if I have permission to put up. Friend me on Facebook and I will post it on this blog toot sweet!
