Gluten Free Home Brewing
Hey everybody, got a blog for ya’ll. Previously I told you about my Celiac allergy. Which means a big change in my eating habits. If you don’t remember what Celiac disease is, please refer to one of my past blogs. Anyway, when my Gastroenterologist ran down all of my dietary no-no’s, it was like death of a thousand paper cuts. And you know what it was terrible. But the final blow, the knockout punch, the last nail in the coffin, the straw that broke the camels back. NO BEER!!! Remember Mcaualy Culkin in Home Alone. That was me but with quite a few expletives.
Fast forward 6 months at a BBQ and there’s my wife coming at me with a cloudy drink with fruit and an umbrella sticking out of it. Wanna know what I said, thanks Honey. Why don’t I just drink out of a toilet. Ya, you laugh but I love my beer. Not necessarily to get hammered or anything like that. But something to drink at a BBQ or after mowing the lawn. It doesn’t even have to be too high in alcohol, I love my beer. As a matter of fact I have a Gluten Free strong ale fermenting in my basement right now.
But let me back track a bit. I did some reading online and there is a growing trend of Gluten Free home brewers out there. There’s even small micro breweries putting out decent GF beers. So I decided to start my own little hobby of brewing my own home made beer. And after a couple of years I can say that I have got this down to a science and that I can make a darn good home made GF brew. It will never be as good as “regular” beers but good enough to satisfy any beer lover like me. If there’s any GF brewers out there, please let me know if you want to exchange GF beer recipes. Please stay tuned for my next blog.
